Gold Coast light rail is on track for 2014.

Learn about the route, read about the benefits of our new light rail system and keep up to date with construction notifications and project updates. From mid 2014 this exciting light rail system will come alive for the Gold Coast. Trams will carry passengers along the coast and connect them with bus services and local attractions along the way.

The route

Stage One of the light rail end-to-end journey in 37 minutes.

Stage One will carry passengers along the 13-kilometre light rail corridor, connecting them from the Gold Coast University Hospital and Griffith University (Health and Knowledge precinct) to the fast growing commercial, retail and recreational centres of Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach.

The trams

GoldLinQ Tram

14 Trams stopping at 16 stations.

  • Up to 70km/hr
  • 43.5 metres long
  • 2.65 metres wide
  • 3.4 metres high
  • Bi-directional with a cab at each end
  • Carrying up to 309 passengers per tram, 80 seated and 229 standing.
  • Dedicated spaces for wheelchairs, prams and surfboards!

About GoldLinQ

GoldLinQ has been chosen to build and operate the Gold Coast light rail, Queensland's first ever light rail system.

As part of the $1 billion 18 year Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract with the Queensland State Government, GoldLinQ will design, build, finance, operate and maintain a light rail public transportation system.

The GoldLinQ Consortium consists of McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd, Bombardier Transportation Australia Pty Ltd and KDR Gold Coast Pty Ltd.

Collectively the companies have decades of experience delivering and operating rail projects across Australia and around the world.
